Pre-Press

This page contains information about the Pre-Press application. The ErikStok.nl pages are all in dutch, but for the PrePress application an english page was created so foreign users of the program can also obtain information about the program.

Pre-Press is a tool that allows pictures created with a digital camera to be scaled or cut to specific proportions. My Minolta dImage 7Hi produces pictures in 3:4 format, but most photo labs require a 2:3 format. To prevent the photo lab cutting off important pieces of my pictures I decided to write a tool that allows me to cut or scale my images fast and easy. Now I can decide myself what to leave out and what to print, and I don't have to use difficult graphics software to cut or scale my images.

Pre-Press allows you to select a number of images to be cut or scaled. The list of images can be constructed by either selecting the images from an open dialog or dragging and dropping files from the Windows explorer.

The open dialog displays a preview of the image so you are sure you select the correct image.

When your list of images to be clipped or cut is complete, you can process the image list to be cut or scaled. You can select the image scale (2:3 or 3:4), the method of scaling (clip or fit), how and where to output the new files (a copy in a specific folder, a copy prefixed with a specific text, a copy suffixed with a specific text or that the original image should be replaced). Also the output quality of the jpeg image can be set.

By using the keyboard you can move the clipped or saled regions fast and with ease. There is no faster way to convert multiple images to new dimensions.

To do

Explorer integration

The idea is to register Pre-Press with the Windows explorer, so a right-click on one or more selected jpeg images allows you to select "Pre-Press" from the menu and the images are processed the same way as in the tool.
